Creative Writing

This morning the students were involved in a creative writing session and they loved it! They were shown an image of a Lions Mane Jellyfishย that Mrs Booth had sourced from Steph Westwood’s Pinterest Writing Inspiration board. ย  Initially lots of discussion fired up the students imagination. Next, Mrs Booth had grade 1 and 2 students create a creative writing piece in a comic format. Grades 3 and 4 had to create a poster that would convince Rom and Mrs Booth to visit the waters where the Lions Mane Jellyfish lived, and finally grade 5 and 6 wrote a journal entry from either the diver or jellyfish perspective. It was great fun and the students wanted more time to finish their tasks. Then they asked if they could present their work to the class. The younger grades loved listening to the older students diary entries and everyone did a fantastic job. Students were asked to be mindful of grammar, punctuation, and spelling but the main focus was just getting their creative thoughts down on paper Who thought writing could be so much fun!

Here is Vikram’s creative response diary entry in rough form.
