What we are reading

Mrs Booth walked outside on Monday and so many students had their heads in a book which was fantastic to see. It was also wonderful to witness the diversity of their reading material. All reading is important whether a novel, comic, blog, magazine, letter, phone texts, newspapers etc as we decode the symbols and construct meaning. Digital literacy is also becoming more  prevalent and being able to look at images, read texts and critically evaluate all the differing multi modal text types that surround us is critical in helping us to make sense of our world.

Confucius who was China’s most famous teacher, philosopher and political theorist had this to say about reading…

“No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for reading, or surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance”

Keep on reading Crossie kids 🙂

  1. Crossmaglen kids are great readers and really enjoy it. We are really working hard to improve comprehension and have been learning about the ‘Big 6 Comprehension Strategies.’ All of the children are very good at making connections to their own lives. This week we will be concentrating on visualising.
